How To Buy Wine Online
What is Winerevolution.com?
Wine Revolution is the launching point for a revolution in the way that wine is bought and sold between participants in the three-tier system in the United States. Utilizing technology and working smarter, our site features all of the wineries participating, links to buy directly from the winery web site and also includes a number of developmental added-value services like our pending Sommelier community.
Who is Inertia currently doing business with using the system?
It's helpful to look at Inertia Beverage Group as a company that provides a technology based service to wineries in order for them to sell direct to consumers. Wineries use our product called the REthink Engine™. In this regard, we have several hundred winery customers-these customers are listed on our web site: http://www.inertiabev.com/inertiabev/page/clients.jsp
We are expanding this consumer direct program to direct-to-trade, as well. However, at the beginning, only wineries that DO NOT have distribution in the states that we are launching will be on the system. In select states where winery and commerce enabled self-distribution is not permissible, we have identified and partnered with a distributor to facilitate the operational detail of doing business in that state.
We are the #1 company in our space and we have exhaustively examined numerous distributors in our pilot states trying to find the best fit for the system, long-term relations and the administration that is necessary.
How is payment handled?
In three-tier states, payment electronically mimics the existing three-tier system with invoicing coming from the distributor and payment going to the producer-along with all state required applicable taxes for full compliance management.
How are returns/corked bottles handled?
This is planned purchasing and as such we anticipate returns and corked bottles to be minimal, especially in small purchase quantities like six bottles or a case. In the event that a return is required, we anticipate the retailer contacting the origin of purchase-the winery and working within state laws for replacement.
How are samples managed?
At the outset, we anticipate wineries fulfilling to "low hanging fruit" trade accounts that were previously not open to them. In the future, we anticipate working with all participants in the Direct-to-Trade initiative and rolling out developmental programs in geographical markets in addition to providing consultative value in working selected markets.
Is a Sommelier at a fine restaurant is going to buy without sampling?
Again, this is a pilot program, but YES we do based on currency the winery will have in relationships and the fact that a proof of concept in several states yielded over 400 in-bound inquiries from trade accounts interested in using niche wineries for differentiation. Increasingly, restaurants are aggressively using their wine list as a sales tool and this program meshes with that strategy.
How do you handle shipment in the middle of August?
For now, the winery and the trade account will work out shipping and special circumstances
