Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions - What is Wine REvolution?
What is Wine REvolution?
Wine REvolution is a Marketplace Program managed by IBG in which retailers and restaurateurs may browse and order wines not typically found in traditional distribution.
Who is IBG?
IBG is a Napa-based technology and logistics company which enables wine suppliers to sell wine direct to both trade accounts and consumers through use of technology. See our About Us page for more information, or visit us at www.ibgwine.com.
What is IBG’s Direct-to-Trade (DTT) program?
Our DTT program allows wine suppliers to sell direct to trade accounts, restaurants and retailers, without having to use a distributor in most instances. It allows trade customers to order wine online or via phone directly from the winery, both legally and in full compliance with state rules and regulations.
How can you sell legally in each state without having to use a distributor?
In states that require a three-tier partner, we have relationships with the appropriate wholesalers who submit the necessary paperwork and pay excise taxes as required. In self-distribution states - for wineries that are licensed as a bonded winery (in CA this is called a Type 02 license) - and that meet other possible state requirements (such as a production cap), a wholesale partner is not required. In Arizona, for instance, wineries that have secured the required permits and produce under 20,000 gallons per year may sell direct to trade accounts.
So, who am I buying from, IBG or the winery?
In IBG’s Direct-to-Trade program, trade accounts are buying directly from the winery. In three-tier states, trade accounts will purchase the wine via one of IBG’s wholesale partners.
How does the purchase process work?
IBG has developed a patent-pending process by which trade accounts may purchase online directly from a winery. To do so, a representative from a restaurant or retail shop visits Wine REvolution, indicates the state in which they are doing business, and enters their beverage license number. That trade purchaser may then create an account, and view wholesale pricing. With the validation of a trade account’s license, the designated business shipping address is identified. The trade account is now able to purchase directly.
Why is the service offered only in 13 states?
In order to ensure full legal compliance with state rules & regulations, IBG works directly with states to gain access to state liquor license databases, as well as to ensure any state mandated operations necessary for direct sales are in place. Some states have state-mandated regulations which limit us from opening up the state in our program. Once a state is open for our DTT program, IBG continues to engage with the state for timely updates to the license database. We are working diligently to evaluate opportunities to open new states for our participating clients. Currently, we have 13 open markets, with 10 additional markets under review.
Frequently Asked Questions - Shopping & Purchasing Wines
Why are there more wines on the website before I sign in?
Prior to registration and sign in, visitors to winerevolution.com will see all products available in our portfolio, across all 13 states. Once logged in, qualified trade accounts will have access to only the product selection available in their specific, licensed state. For information on any wines you are interested in, but are not available in your state, please contact us at info@winerevolution.com.
How can I taste these wines before I purchase?
If you have interest in a specific wine, you may contact us directly to obtain a sample. We will make every effort to provide a sample for you in a timely manner.
Can I get terms or pay by check?
At this time, credit card is the preferred method of payment. The advantages of using a credit card include terms from the credit card provider, possibly “points” on your credit card loyalty program, and expedited order processing. The DTT program does not support invoicing and terms.
Who is the wholesaler?
It depends on the state in which you are licensed. In three-tier states such as Florida, New-York, or Texas, IBG has partnered with a wholesaler. In the other states, where wineries have the right to self-distribute, the winery acts as the wholesaler. In California, only California wine producers may self-distribute; those not based in California must engage our wholesale partner. Our partner wholesaler will be identified – for those states where necessary – in the product detail information, when signed in to the site.
Can I order a mixed case?
The minimum quantity for any given product is six bottles.
Can I get volume discounts?
Yes, you will need to sign in to view volume pricing.
How do I see wholesale pricing?
To see wholesale pricing, you must be registered and logged into winerevolution.com. Click on the register or sign in links on the top of any page within the site, enter your valid, state license, and once qualified, you will be able to view all wholesale pricing on the site. If you have any problem registering, please contact us at support@winerevolution.com.
Do these prices include shipping? How much is shipping?
The wholesale prices you see once you are logged-in are inclusive of all costs, including shipping. There are no hidden costs and the wholesale price you see is the final price you pay for the wine to be delivered to your business.
How will I know what new wines are being added?
If you are on IBG’s DTT mailing list, you will receive periodic notices of new wines being offered in each market. Sign up for our mailing list here.
Frequently Asked Questions - Shipping Policies
What addresses can I ship my wine order to?
In order to place an order with Wine REvolution, you must hold a valid license. Our patent-pending technology checks license numbers against the state database for the state in which you are licensed. Once validated, your shipping address is identified as that which is registered with the state in which you hold a license. Contact us at info@winerevolution.com if you have an alternate address that you would like considered for shipment.
What states can I ship into?
Wine REvolution currently ships to the following states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Vermont, Washington, and Wyoming.
Who ships the wine? How long does delivery take?
All wineries participating in the Wine REvolution program maintain allocated inventory at IBG’s Fulfillment Center for the purpose of fulfilling orders placed via the site. Depending on destination state and order volume, wines may be shipped via common carrier, reefer, or a local delivery partner. Time frame for delivery is 5-7 business days post order placement.
How are the wines delivered? Refrigerated?
The method of delivery may depend on the volume ordered or on the delivery market and, in some instances, on the suppliers themselves. Orders under 10 cases are delivered via common carrier in the same way that top producers ship their allocated wines to their consumers and, at times, this requires refrigeration.
What addresses do you not ship into?
According to state laws, alcohol cannot be shipped to PO Boxes or APO/FPO addresses. Also, we do not currently ship wine internationally.
Do you implement Weather Holds?
When extreme weather conditions could adversely affect your shipment of wine, we may place a temporary Weather Hold on orders shipping to or through any affected states. We apologize for any inconvenience these delays may cause and will be watching the weather closely so as to resume shipping as soon as conditions permit.
If you choose to override a Weather Hold placed on your order, we recommend contacting IBG to explore alternatives. When orders are released from Weather Hold at the customer's request, we cannot accept responsibility for damage that items may suffer due to extreme temperatures in transit, and will not replace these items at our expense. If you prefer to cancel your order and shop again at a later date, we will certainly oblige.
Frequently Asked Questions - Support & Services
Why is my license number invalid?
Your license number may simply have been input in a format not recognized by our database. Our database uses the same format as the state liquor authorities. In some states, your liquor license may have more than one number, so please make sure that you input the appropriate number. Also, if you recently obtained your license, it may not yet be in our database. If you have a valid liquor license but are unable to sign in, please call us at 1-888-819-3993 and we will guide you through the registration process.
I recently applied for my liquor license and don't have the number yet. How long do I have to wait before I can sign in to purchase wines?
When you receive a copy of your liquor license, you should be able to register your account and begin to browse and purchase wines. However, we are only able to update our liquor license databases as frequently as each state makes their data available. Therefore, if you have your license number and are still unable to register, please fax or email a copy to our attention (Attn: WineREvolution.com Registration, Fax 707.603.4100 or email info@winerevolution.com). As soon as we verify your liquor license in the state in which you are doing business, we will set up your account to ensure you can sign in to purchase wines direct.
How do I reorder?
Simply call us at 1-888-819-3993 or email us and ask for a reorder. We will have all your information on file to place your reorder.
